The
setting:
The countryside
is scattered with sunflowers, apple and plum orchards, sleepy
little hill top towns and ancient villages. Most have a café
or restaurant near pleasant arcaded market squares where you
can sit and enjoy a drink, or relax over lunch. Once a week
on market day they become busy bustling places with farmers
selling their produce, everything from local honey to Tourtieres
( the local apple pie ) fresh herbs and olives, gleaming plump
vegetables, colourful fruits, cheeses, hams and foie gras.
Accommodation
at L 'Hirondelle:
L 'Hirondelle boasts comfortable and spacious accommodation
with a very tasteful mixture of rustic and modern furnishings
and antiques.
Built
in 1838 its many original features include solid stone walls,
recently cleaned on the outside revealing the original beauty
of the stone, These walls are incredibly thick making the
house blissfully cool in summer and cosy in the Winter. There
are heavily beamed ceilings in every room and a huge stone
fire place in the living room where you can relax in front
of a blazing log fire if the weather is cool.
There
is LCD TV and DVD player with English satellite free channels
in the huge living room for those who don't want to miss the
soaps!
There
are two sofas here, one can convert to a comfy sofa bed if
necessary, nice big living room with two staircases leading
upstairs.
The ancient
front door leads you into the dining hall/conservatory which
looks out onto a pretty stone walled courtyard with olive
trees, flowers and shrubs.
The dining table in the conservatory can seat up to 20 people
for those unmissable French banquets.
Each
of the 5 bedrooms have an individual design, ranging from
Louis 15th, huge wooden carved beds and armoires to heavily
beamed contemporary rooms approached to by a stunning white
antique spiral staircase! Not to mention the huge freestanding
slipper bath in the master bedrooms en suite!
The house
has an eclectic mix of old and new which suits the old house
perfectly.
There is a fully equipped kitchen and pantry with a dishwasher,
range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave & washing machine.
Hairdryer, iron and board are supplied too.
Bedroom
1 -
has one double bed ( downstairs ) with French Louis 15th style
bed and armoire, double opening window looks out onto a beautiful
magnolia tree and in the distance a field with some grazing
cows
. Shares large shower area with double sinks & toilet,
with bedroom 2.
Bedroom
2 -
has a small double bed ( downstairs ). Window looks out over
the woods on one side and the tennis court on the other, there
is a small rose garden just outside the window Shares large
shower area with double sinks & toilet, with bedroom 1.
Bedroom
3 -
has one huge metal kingsize bed, lots of beams and perfect
views as far as the eye can see with luxury , large, en-suite
bathroom/dressing room with a gorgeous huge freestanding slipper
bath set right in the middle and art deco cabinet.
Bedroom
4 -
has one large double bed and one sofa which converts to a
comfy small double bed. Once again perfect views from the
huge window
Shares en-suite bathroom with bedroom 5. (Bath and shower
attachment, wc and sink in this bathroom)
Bedroom
5 -
has one double
bed and one sofa which converts to a comfy small double bed,
lots of beams in here so mind your head and has a small door
which connects bedrooms 4&5 if required! Shares en-suite
bathroom with bedroom 4.
Bedroom 5 also has its own beautiful white cast iron spiral
staircase which leads to the lounge.
Upstairs there are 2 bathrooms and one shower room downstairs.
All rooms
have ancient beams and most have magnificent fully
opening French windows with shutters, offering the most fantastic
views of the countryside as far as the eye can see.
Some rooms have Velux windows in the ceilings between the
beams and some rooms have beams at chest height so mind your
head!
L’hirondelle has its own private hottub adjacent to
the house open for use both day and night and shares the rest
of the outdoor facilities with L’alouette.
